Cotton Cuts Subscription Review

At the end of September, I introduced you all to the Cotton Cuts subscription service. This was before a single box had shipped. The premise of the service was enough to get me on board with them. I liked the idea of getting just fabric. not a little fabric and a whole box of tools I would probably never use. Another big selling point was their mission statement. Cotton Cuts is on a mission to create jobs. We have partnered with a local workshop that provides dignified employment opportunities to the intellectually challenged and to those with other disabilities. Every Cotton Cuts membership that you purchase contributes toward enriching the lives of these very talented individuals. I loved that. Many of you wanted to see what the box actually was and what I thought o it. So instead of answering the same question over and over again I am doing it here.

So let’s see what came in the box. I did a live unboxing on Facebook for those of you who could tune in. For those of you who missed it, I uploaded to YouTube as well.

I adore the fact that I got a hand-written note in the box. I had gotten an email before the boxes were sent but passed it off as a form type of email that everyone got. I got another email just a few days ago, leading up to the next box and I know now that one wasn’t a form letter. The letter mentioned the video above. I’m a huge fan of personal service.

So what about the fabrics? I’m thrilled that most of the fabrics in my box were from companies that I don’t normally have access to at my small town quilt shops. The two Thanksgiving prints are by Shelly Comisky for Henry Glass. The yellow and pink blender prints are from Camelot Studios. The pink floral is by Kathy Deggendorfer for Maywood Studios. The black and blue floral is an updated feed sack by Whistler Studios. The batiks are by Clothworks and the two juvenile prints are by David Walker Studios for Free Spirit.

You can order more fabric on the Cotton Cut’s website if you really like one of the fabrics. You can also see what others got in their boxes. I really like that. I love fat quarters but sometimes I want to use the fabric in a larger project.

So how does the price breakdown? Each box costs $39.95 per month if you go month to month plus $6.25 for shipping. That’s a grand total of $46.20 each month. You get a free quilt pattern each month as well. With the pattern price, this month’s was $8, the fat quarters come out to be about $3 each. That’s about what my LQS charges and the bonus is I don’t have to drive 40 miles round trip.

If you decide to sign up for the service use coupon code COTTONCUTS for 10% off your first order. I would also appreciate if you let them know I sent you over by using referral code MSHIELDS. That helps me earn free fabric and that helps to keep the blog alive.
