Adorable and Free Hugs & Kisses Baby Quilt Block
The hugs & kisses quilt is nothing new I know. It’s an extremely popular baby quilt and I thought it would be fun to shrink that down to a quilt block size. Since it’s such a popular baby quilt that made it the perfect addition to Quilt Block Mania baby-themed blog hop. So let’s make a Hugs & Kisses quilt block!

The History of The X and O Quilt Blocks
The X quilt block dates back to 1938. Now it was probably made before that but that’s it’s first published date. I couldn’t find a published date for the O quilt block but since it just has four squares with snowballed corners it would be difficult to narrow it down. It might also have a different name that I’m not aware of.
Why This Pattern?
I have been wanting to shrink a quilt for quilt block mania for awhile. The problem is usually making a 12″ quilt block look like a bigger quilt requires a lot of tiny piecing and it can compete with the other blocks in the hop. The X and O quilt though was the perfect one because it doesn’t have a lot of piecing so no super tiny pieces are found in this Hugs and Kisses quilt block.
Also I am a Trisha Yearwood fan and love the song XXX’s and OOO’s.

Methods Used In Hugs & Kisses Quilt Block
We start by cutting fabric so if you need help cutting the strips to subcut the squares from start there. We are making economy blocks and snowball blocks. I don’t go into in-depth instructions on either method in the pattern so if you’ve never done either please refer to the linked posts with detailed instructions and videos.
